Genre: Urban Drama

Synopsis:

Tottenham Rules! follows 17-year-old Roshawn, a gifted teenager growing up on a North London estate who dreams of becoming an engineer. Intelligent, resourceful and quietly ambitious, he finds himself trapped between two worlds. By day he juggles school and a part-time job at a supermarket; by night he becomes increasingly drawn into the low-level drug trade that dominates life on his estate. As financial pressures mount and criminal influences tighten their grip, Roshawn begins to question whether his ambitions can survive in an environment where opportunity feels out of reach.

His estranged uncle, Bangali “Ben”, has spent years distancing himself from the community that raised him. After escaping Tottenham and forging a successful corporate career, Ben has reinvented himself, leaving behind not only the estate but also painful memories of family trauma, poverty and abuse. Yet despite his professional success, he struggles with a lingering sense of disconnection from his identity and the people he left behind.

When Ben learns that Roshawn is heading down a dangerous path, he reluctantly returns to Tottenham, forcing him to confront a past he has spent years trying to forget. As uncle and nephew begin rebuilding their fractured relationship, Ben recognises a younger version of himself in Roshawn—equally intelligent, equally conflicted, but with far fewer opportunities to escape. Determined to show his nephew that another future is possible, Ben encourages Roshawn to rediscover his passion for engineering, even as the realities of estate life threaten to pull him deeper into crime.

As the two grow closer, long-buried family secrets and unresolved trauma begin to surface. Their journey exposes the emotional scars left by generations of neglect, fractured relationships and absent role models, while exploring the pressures of masculinity, race, class and identity in modern Britain. Through difficult conversations, painful revelations and unexpected acts of courage, both men are forced to confront the choices that have defined their lives.

Set against the vibrant, resilient backdrop of Tottenham, Tottenham Rules! is a powerful coming-of-age drama about family, ambition and redemption. It explores the tension between escaping your roots and embracing them, asking whether one person can truly break the cycle of generational disadvantage. At its heart, the film is an uplifting story of hope, mentorship and second chances, celebrating the transformative power of education, compassion and human connection in the face of adversity.
